windNavigator logowindNavigator® is AWS Truewind’s primary platform for delivering its information-rich products. Initially released in 2008 as an efficient, user-friendly prospecting and initial wind resource assessment tool, windNavigator quickly became the go-to resource for energy developers and government planners looking to locate and confirm attractive wind development sites.

In response to positive feedback and requests for additional wind assessment products, AWS Truewind developed the windNavigator Siting and Assessment module to support the evolving needs of current users and industry leaders. From small wind installers to utility-scale developers, utilities, manufacturers, government agencies, academic, non-profit and advocacy groups, the high-resolution solutions available through windNavigator provide a level of confidence unparalleled by other commercially available wind resource tools.

Develop a true competitive advantage for your business by reducing uncertainty and risk with our high-resolution maps and detailed wind reports. New products and services available through windNavigator Siting and Assessment include  three subscription packages (Developer, Prospector, Advocate), three levels of reports (Site Surveyor, Site Analyst, Site Analyst Pro), discounts on high-resolution GIS data and related products, and advanced account administration features to improve workflow and reduce overhead costs.

With a reputation for technical excellence and advanced computer modeling spanning 25 years, AWS Truewind's latest innovation, openWind®, represents the next generation of wind farm design and optimization solutions.

Flexibility, capability, ease of use, and transparency are all key qualities that set openWind apart from other commercially available options on the market. It is a prime example of AWS Truewind’s continued dedication to advancing the state‐of‐the‐art across multiple disciplines.

openWind is being released initially as a freely downloadable, open‐source software package. With this version, users are able to view and freely modify the code, subject to the limitations of the open‐source license. Far from being a limited “demo,” the open‐source version has all the capabilities for designing and optimizing wind projects and calculating their energy production. A protected version of the software intended for users requiring greater security and guaranteed authenticity will be made available in 2009, along with a variety of proprietary modules with specialized or advanced features.

AWS Truewind invites the wind energy community to embrace this project and work with it to optimize the software. Visit www.awsopenwind.org today and take a proactive step toward shaping the future of the wind industry.

Prior to designing a wind project, high-resolution wind resource maps and data are an absolute necessity to better understand the resource at your site.  AWS Truewind has produced high-resolution wind maps for over 60 countries using its proprietary MesoMap® system. These maps assist clients in assessing wind resources, identifying attractive sites, and defining regional and national wind-based generation potential.  Our maps have greatly accelerated the project development process while providing more planning certainty as well.  The wind maps produced using the MesoMap system are trusted world-wide as the most detailed and accurate wind maps available, with an unparalleled validation track record.
