Wind Resource Explorer

Wind Resource Explorer® is an Internet, browser-based tool that is enabled for the spatial exploration of wind resource data developed and maintained by AWS Truewind.  Wind Resource Explorer also contains other sophisticated spatial and tabular data maintained by AWS Truewind for the purposes of siting possible wind power generation facilities. Providing public access to this data via the Internet allows users to explore this data in an autonomous manner.

Wind Resource Explorer is a custom-made client solution, remotely hosted and built from the ground up to support unique functionality. In addition to basic mapping functions such as Zoom, Pan, Identify, and Print Map, it provides functionality specific to the exploration and use of wind resource data.  Such functionality includes automated cartography (display of related wind data layers with set symbology), automated wind resource report generation including wind rose chart, interface with the Clean Power Estimator and more.

The benefits of the Wind Resource Explorer application to the end-user are rapid access to both geographic and tabular information relevant to wind energy siting assessments.  An added benefit to potential installers of small turbines is Wind Resource Explorer’s interface with the Clean Power Estimator, providing instant calculation of annual energy production and project economics for specific small turbine models. The functionality combined with a wind resource map gives users of all types (developers, regional planners, communities, individuals) unprecedented access to geophysical databases and site screening tools conveniently from their own desktop computers.  The provision of remote exploration tools and databases applicable to wind energy site selection and assessment is designed to facilitate future wind energy development in all forms—from customer-sited end use applications to large wind farms.
